The RATP (transport authority) in Paris (France) is taking advantage of the long week-end coming (November 1 is a holiday in France) for important works, with major service disruptions planned on lines 1 and RER A. Download the updated "temporary" files:

  • Paris-full-travaux (inner city subway, bus and RER networks). To use this one on a Palm device, you must get a recent version (5.6.0 or later) of the program and directly install the file on a memory card.

MetrO on the iPhone (3)

i-MetrO on the iPhoneWith the help of a new iPod Touch, I have finally been able to debug i-MetrO. You can now use the Netvibes platform - with its dedicated version at http://iphone.netvibes.com - and our widget to search your routes on your Apple iPhone or iPod Touch.

For a quick access, I'd recommend you install the widget in its own tab for which you can keep a bookmark. In any case, you should not add too much content in each tab if you don't want to spend your time scrolling like mad...

Everything is not perfect yet: the search page interface is quite slow (at least on my device) and Safari tends to do weird things if you try to move too fast. Another problem I don't (yet) understand: the Google Maps usually work all right but sometimes, for no apparent reason, they won't show.

I have added an iPhone page on our web site for the occasion, where you can find all the options - present and future - you have to use MetrO on your device.

Now, except for possible minor improvements and bug fixes, I expect the next major item in this series will be about the development of a native version of MetrO for the Apple platform.

Spišská Nová Ves

P. Absolon has prepared a database for the city of Spišská Nová Ves (Slovakia).

i-MetrO for Opera

Users who have tried to use i-MetrO with the Opera browser have probably noticed some bugs in the advanced interface (e.g. with the filtered stop lists).

While working on the compatibility with the iPhone, I have finally found the reasons for these problems and i-MetrO is now entirely functional under Opera (tested with version 9.23).

MetrO online update

I have just realized that our online update service (which is used from MetrO on Windows Mobile & Symbian or from MetrUp on PalmOS) did not take the latest version (5.6.1) into account. This error is fixed and everything should now be working as expected.

My apologies for the inconvenience...

MetrO on the iPhone (2)

My efforts to make i-Métro compatible with the iPhone seem to have failed, at least with our "nicer" versions (the basic version is working all right, as far as I know), apparently because of bugs in the Safari browser, but there are good news in the pipe:

  • First, the iPod Touch is now available in France and I will probably get one so that I can make live tests with the browser. The iPhone is also coming, but much later and I don't want to be tied with one operator (especially when its name begins with an "O" and ends with an "e").

  • Second, Steve Jobs has officially announced that an SDK will be released in February, for the iPhone as well as for the iPod Touch. I guess it means we will have to lay our hand on a Mac to develop, but that's some progress. With it, we may be able to develop a "real" version of MetrO for the iPhone.
