Line 1 of the Shenzhen (China) metro has been extended, with 3 new stations.

Paris (works)

Works on subway lines 1 & 5 in Paris (France) have ended. RER C to Montigny-Beauchamp is replaced by a bus service on late weekday evenings. RER D to Malesherbes is replaced by a bus service during daytime on weekdays. And, starting Thursday, station Jaurès will close on subway line 2 for a few weeks.

N. Viveen noticed that our database for London (U.K.) still refered to the "ONE" operator although it has changed its brand to "National Express" long ago.

G. Valbuena reports the addition of 4 new routes to the Transmilenio bus system in Bogotá (Colombia).

Portland, OR

P. Smith notified me of the opening of a new MAX light rail line in Portland, OR (USA) as well as a route change on the existing yellow line.

A new subway line will open next week in Beijing (China).

i-MetrO for Layar

Our i-MetrO layer for Layar, the augmented reality browser for Android, has been enhanced with:

• Detailed information about the public transportation routes serving the selected stop,
• A direct link to i-MetrO to compute a route from the selected stop,
• Coverage extended to 28 cities (Amsterdam, Arnhem, Berlin, Budapest, Chicago, Den Haag, Hong Kong, Istanbul, Kosice, Lille, Londres, Los Angeles, Madrid, Melbourne, Mexico, Moscou, New York, Paris, Philadelphie, Rotterdam, Sacramento, San Francisco, Santiago de Chile, Tokyo, Utrecht, Vancouver, Venezia, Washington DC).

T. Hill notifies us of the opening last Monday of the new Green light rail line in Dallas, TX (USA).

i-MetrO for Layar

While MetrO for Android is still in the planning stage only, we have the pleasure to unveil our new service: i-MetrO for Layar.

If you don't know it yet, Layar is an Android application (available on the Android Market) that display various types of information (Flicker photos, restaurants, real estate prices...) in augmented reality - i.e. as text and graphics shown over a picture of your environment.

Each source of information is created as a "layer" and I built one for the Paris subway stations:


You may find it with a search within Layar, with the keyword "metro".

The information provided is not quite rich (only the station names) but I may improve that if I find the time and if it is helpful to anyone (I tend to consider this as a gadget...)

Also note that versions of Layar are planned for other mobile systems and one for the iPhone should be available soon.

Paris (works)

Works at station Nation on subway line 1 in Paris (France) have now ended.

London database mix-up

During the course of our development for a London database including bus routes, I made a mistake in publishing the test version on our web services and inadvertently replaced the existing file (with subway and railway routes) instead of adding it to the list. Both files are now available again...

Please note that the problem affected only our online download services (used by the iPhone and Blackberry versions of MetrO).

I apologize for any inconvenience this error may have incurred.

Berlin (works)

More information has been made available about situation on the S-Bahn network in Berlin (Germany): details have been included in our database for the week-end and night services as well as for the available replacement bus services.

Madrid (works)

Works on subway line 6 in Madrid (Spain) will end on Monday morning. It also appears that evening works on line 1 have ended already.

Unless something new happens, this is the last update for the "works" database for Madrid and you will be able to revert to our "standard" file next Monday.

Paris (works)

Evening works on the RER A in Paris (France) have ended.

Next week, RER B will be replaced by a bus service between Aulnay and CDG airport on weekday late evenings and the T4 will be replaced by a bus service after 21:00 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

In addition, works at station République have led to a recommendation to avoid the station for connections, which I tried to include in our database.

San Francisco

V. Lei informs us of a change planned on next Monday on the evening and week-end BART services to Millbrae, in the San Francisco Bay Area (USA).

Sofia

With the opening of a new subway station in Sofia (Bulgaria), the two existing (separate) stretches now make a complete line.

Porto

G. Martins-Coelho reports the creation of a new suburban railway line ("Linha de Leixões") in Porto (Portugal).

Berlin (works)

M. Ciesielski keeps us up to date on the situation of the S-Bahn network in Berlin (Germany): services have been slightly improved on lines S2 and S7 today.

Ajaccio

L. Alvarez sent an update for the bus network of Ajaccio (Corsica - France), with many places of interest (POIs), for tourists as well as for residents.

Brussels

L. Debacker reports some changes on the tram network in Brussels (Belgium), affecting lines 3, 4 and 33.

Paris

One year after it entered in service, the Voguéo service in Paris (France) has been improved with faster and more frequent links.

While making changes to our databases, I have also renamed them, for better clarity, following the criticism the current names drew on the Apple AppStore. You will now have a choice between:

• Paris Bus (with the inner city bus routes only)
• Paris Métro-Bus (with the subway, RER and the inner city bus routes)
• Paris Métro-Train (with all the rail services in the Ile-de-France area)
• Works versions for the latter 2 ("Travaux" is added to the name)
  

Bratislava

P. Absolon (again :-) sent some updates for the bus network in Bratislava (Slovakia).

Žilina

P. Absolon notified me of a minor change on one bus route in Žilina (Slovakia).
