New York

New long-term disruptions affect subway services in New York (USA), at 225 St (on line 1) and 71 St (on line D).

Berlin (works)

There are a lot of changes in Berlin (Germany) today: works at "Dahlem-Dorf" on subway line U3 now affect services in direction "Nollendorfplatz", disruptions on tram line M1 have ended and normal service is almost restored on tram line 68, except between "Zum Seeblick" and "Alt-Schmöckwitz".

Lyon

The bus system in Lyon (France) has been entirely redesigned and we rebuilt our database with the help of T. Mognetti. At first, it includes only the 26 "major lines" and a handful of other routes.

The new file can be downloaded here or through our usual online services, including those that are embedded in recent versions of the MetrO app (for iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Symbian...).

Linz

After the tram line 3 extension in Linz (Austria), and just as I suspected, I missed some changes on the bus network such as line 14 being discontinued, which was reported by @golf_sierra on Twitter.

Tehran

A new station ("Sheykh-o-raeis") has opened on metro line 4 in Tehran (Iran).

New York (works)

Our special "works" database for New York (USA) has been updated with the latest advisories from the MTA.

Because of hurricane Irene, all works on the subway network are suspended over the week-end and the system will begin shutting down at noon tomorrow (Saturday). In any case, you are advised to stay home, if possible.

Colmar

E. Biellmann has prepared an update to our database for Colmar (France), with the minor changes that will occur on the bus network on September 5th.

MetrO 5.9.6

For those among you who use the app on PalmOS, Windows Mobile or Symbian devices (users of other platforms enjoy more frequent updates) version 5.9.6 of MetrO has just been released, with major changes on a dozen cities and 30 others modified in less important ways.

In addition, the new releases for Symbian^3, S60v5 and Maemo are now out of "beta" status.

MetrO for Android (0.3.0)

I keep working on MetrO for Android and a new version (0.3.0) is now available with a few new features and other improvements, including:

• Geolocation: in the more than 50 cities where we have geographic coordinates, you can now search a route from/to your current position (set the focus on the origin or arrival text field and press the compass-like button).

• Speed optimizations, particularly on the opening of a city file (faster by about 30%) and on finding a route from/to a street address (10x faster, at least).

• Preferences: you can set the maximum distance to search for stops around your position or a street address and choose to display the quickest route or the one with the least number of connections first in the results.

• Street addresses that have been previously located are now suggested when typing a few characters (in the same way it works for stops).

• The "shake" detection feature (to reset the screen) has been removed because it proved too sensitive (according to Vincent's and my own experience ;-).

London

It looks like, last February, I missed^* the opening in London (UK) of an extension on the East London line, linking it with the tube at Highbury and Islington.

^* Why doesn't anyone bother to report these changes?

Linz

An extension has opened yesterday on tram line 3 in Linz (Austria), comprising 8 new stations. I have tried to find the bus lines that may have been affected (but I am not sure I got all of them).

Bangkok

The Sukhumvit BTS Skytrain line in Bangkok (Thailand) has been extended, with 5 new stations opened last week.

Oslo

Works that have affected the T-bane (subway) line 1 in Oslo (Norway) these last months have ended a few weeks ago and the line is in full operation again. In addition, 2 new stops will open tomorrow on line 6 and I made a number of  improvements and some changes that I had missed in the past.

Atlanta

I geocoded all the bus stops in our Atlanta, GA (USA) database, making it eligible for location and street address routing in MetrO for iPhone and Android. However, please note that not all bus routes nor all of their stops are included.

Chongqing

A new subway line has opened in Chongqing (China) and an additional monorail route should begin trial operation soon.

Salt Lake City

The TRAX (light rail) network in Salt Lake City, UT (USA) has been completed, now comprising 3 distinct routes.

Berlin (works)

Works on tram line M10 in Berlin (Germany) have ended while lines 12 and 27 will be replaced by bus services between "Pasedagplatz" and "Berliner Allee/Rennbahnstraße" over the week-end.

MetrO for Android (0.2.0)

I have discovered that the recent (preview) release of MetrO for Android contained a major bug, that made it ignore the route operating times in most cases. Consequently, a new release (0.2.0) is now available and I urge all early adopters to install it as soon as possible.

In addition to the afore mentioned issue, this version fixes other problems:

• The crash that occured (sometimes) on a city deletion (as reported by "Uncle Mark") should not happen anymore.
• Changing the device orientation is now handled more completely.
• When updating the currently opened city, it should now be actually refreshed.
• The shake movement detection is still being improved...

And there is a new feature, although it has not been tested extensively: in the more than 50 cities that include geographic coordinates (those with an "X" mark in this list), you can now query a route from/to a street address. Just enter the address instead of a stop name, the app will ask if it should try to locate it and, if you confirm, you'll get your door-to-door advice. Of course, locating an address requires an Internet connection but the app keeps the 20 last used to make it easier and faster to use with your favorite places.

Brisbane

The last effects of last winter floods on the ferry routes in Brisbane (Australia) have been remedied, with the reopening of the "West End" and "River Plaza" terminals, the latter now being renamed "Maritime Museum".

In addition, I have geocoded all the railway stations (in addition to the ferry terminals, which were already geocoded), so that you may enjoy street address routing with our web, iPhone and (soon) Android versions of MetrO.

Toulon

L. Kieffer has added 3 more bus routes to our Toulon (France) database.
