- Geolocation: in the more than 50 cities where we have geographic coordinates, you can now search a route from/to your current position (set the focus on the origin or arrival text field and press the compass-like button).
- Speed optimizations, particularly on the opening of a city file (faster by about 30%) and on finding a route from/to a street address (10x faster, at least).
- Preferences: you can set the maximum distance to search for stops around your position or a street address and choose to display the quickest route or the one with the least number of connections first in the results.
- Street addresses that have been previously located are now suggested when typing a few characters (in the same way it works for stops).
- The "shake" detection feature (to reset the screen) has been removed because it proved too sensitive (according to Vincent's and my own experience ;-).
Download MetrO for Android!
Please keep reporting any issue your may encounter with this release, preferably by mail (my address is now displayed preeminently in the app).
Thanks a lot ! It's useful as soon as today for me
ReplyDelete;-)
Excellent! Thanks for all the hard work! Looks and (after 10 seconds trial, works well on my Samsung Galaxy SII). Will do more tests when back from vacation!
ReplyDeleteThanks..
ReplyDeleteBut I'm still having trouble getting to to download from the tiny screen on my phone!
Looks really good..well done
ReplyDeleteMetro 0.3.0 seems to work fine on my HTC Sensation.
ReplyDeleteI don't see a way to display the version number (unless I just miss it). That would be helpful while keeping up with the beta updates.
The version number is quite hidden, indeed. It appears in the "about" box when opened from the city list.
ReplyDeleteOh, finally arrived on android! Thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteDownloaded and running on Desire.
First opinion:
Setting a home location and history/favorites would be nice.
Seems to be working wonderfully - thank you so much. A financial contribution will be forthcoming as soon as I get paid.
ReplyDeleteCan you please advise us, via email, when there are new updates or will those come through the app?
Daniel

I'm sorry but I can't start managing a mailing list just for the Android version (all those tasks take time)...
ReplyDeleteRegular updates about MetrO are posted on this blog. You can subscribe to the RSS feeds or follow @kinevia on Twitter to notice whenever something happens.
Excellent! Thank you very much for the effort, Patrice. Never give up!
ReplyDeleteWorks fain on Samsung Galaxy S.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
Amazing app.
Realmente necesario. Gracias y mantengan ese buen trabajo!
ReplyDeleteThanx a lot works gr8 on HTC Sensation
ReplyDeletelooks good to me :)
ReplyDeleteWishlist: When opening the city list I think it would be better to be at the point where last closed, instead of at "A" again :)
Is this available in Android Market? How can I install?
ReplyDeleteThis pre-release is not available on the Android Market. See the first post in this series for installation instructions.
ReplyDeleteI am also one of those, who have no idea how and where to install the application. Where is the first post you are referring to for the installation instructions? I cannot locate it even after clicking on the "post" link. It would be easier to all if the instructions would be included in the Metro.zip file... By the way, this was very easy on the WM 6.5 platform.
DeleteAt long last I am so happy this is finally out for the Android platform. I kept my non-serviced blackberry for this only function. Granted it was very useful but now I can have it all in 1 device. I cannot wait to see future enhancements. I am very glad the basics are there but now using Android technology
ReplyDeleteFinally! Thank you soo much! :-) Metro works fine on my HTC Desire. And just in time! I was seriously thinking about taking my old Palm TX to my Paris trip next week, just because of Metro. Now I can finally put my Palm away for good!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I am missing is the list of stations at the result, so I know the name of the station before the one where I have to leave the train.
I'm back from Paris. MetrO helped me a lot to easily get from one place to another. Thanks, again!
ReplyDeleteThere is just another thing I am missing. In the Palm version, it was possible to avoid certain lines. It is very useful, e.g. when a line is closed because of an accident and you need to find a different route.
I'm looking forward for the final version!
I have been using Metr0 on Palm (Pilot III and V) and on WinCE (erk!), then moved on to Android and kind of forgot about it until I learnt I have to travel to London City, and then you saved my life. First tests on Samsung Galaxy S went smoothly and reminded me again how great this application is!
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, Eric L.
Köszi a fejlesztőknek. Symbianon az eggyik legjobb tömegközlekedési navi progi szerintem.Androidra hiánypótló,bár az adatbázist ( magyar ) nagyon nem ártana frissíteni.
ReplyDeleteYou made my day...finally one of my favorite apps from WinMo on Android.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot :)... App looks great.
Working fine in Motorola Defy... I really missed the app in my time as an Android user. I'm awaiting happily the addition of the additional, now-grayed-out features.
ReplyDeletePatrice, do you have coordinates for Buenos Aires? If you do not, I have them compiled and I could send them to you if you in the format of your preference.
Marcelo
ReplyDeleteWe don't have the data for Buenos Aires and it would be a nice addition. Any format would do as long as I can associate stop names with their latitude and longitude ;-)
Thanks!
Patrice
MetrO was probably the most useful app I had in my old Nokia N82. It's fantastic to have it now for android too. Keep up the good work! And I beg you, please don't abandon its development, the grayed-out options were amongst the ones I used the most!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
MetrO was one of the top 3 apps in my Palms for many years. Thanks a lot. Version 0.30 works great in my LG P500h.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!! It works great on Desire. Have been a MetrO user since Palm m500 days and have been waiting (in)patiently. Very happy today!!!
ReplyDeleteUsed MetrO on my Palm (Sony Clié) and loved it. Was eagerly hoping to see it on Android. I have a Nook Color with the N2A CyanogenMod 7.1 version, and was able to successfully download the apk file (reports as 232K) - but when I tried to install it, I got "application not installed" (I do have the correct setting to permit it). Advice?
ReplyDeletePlease continue to develop your application (and translate it in french ;) as it is very promising (ver 0.3.0 on HTC HD2 under Android 2.3.5 / Sense 3.5 - Energy Sensation XL)
ReplyDeletePlease keep on with developing the app for android. It is very good so far and works without problems but some features of the iphone version are missing. Thanks for als the affords.
ReplyDeleteInprescindible en cualquier móvil moderno, soluciona cualquier problema de desplazamiento en la ciudad que te encuentres.
ReplyDelete100% recomendable.
It would be great to have the list of points of interest, just as supplied on the palm and blackberry versions.
ReplyDelete30/08/2012
ReplyDeleteMetrO était une application PalmOS parmi mes favorites, et son portage Androïd très prometteur... Quand pensez-vous proposer une nouvelle version plus étendue (afficher les stations d'une ligne ou d'un trajet par exemple) ?
Are you still working on the Android Version?
